Find Detox Centers in Minnesota by City or County:

Services offered in drug and alcohol detox centers in Minnesota

Detox services are basically the same no matter where you are, so what you will find in Minnesota will be no different. They will offer both inpatient and outpatient treatments. Those treatments may begin with a partial hospitalization to manage the withdrawal symptoms at the outset, but for the most part, the is no admission into a facility that will be required. This is true for both drug and alcohol detox.

The detox process will begin with a medical assessment that will look to define what substance the patient is addicted to, how long they have been addicted, how much are they using, and have they ever tried and failed to get clean and stay that way. The answers to these questions will help determine the detox/rehab plan for each patient.

With just a few exceptions, detox/rehab programs are medication-assisted. They commonly employ Methadone, Suboxone, Subutex or Vivitrol to help ease patients through the withdrawal process. The recommendation is always a treatment plan that runs for 90 days since this is proven to be the minimum time required to help insure against a relapse.

Detox programs normally include some form of rehab as well. That might involve various forms of behavioral therapies, along with group and individual counseling, and some level of peer or mentor support. In a typical 12-step program, these are commonly known as rehab buddies.

How effective is detox in Minnesota?

This is a tough one to answer since there are no hard and fast rules for measuring success. Some detox centers measure success by the number of patients that complete the full treatment cycle. In Minnesota, most centers claim a success rate that is north of 90%, using this criterion.

The better approach to measuring success may be to measure the occurrence of relapses among those that completed the program. Depending on who you are, this can be a more dismal 30% success rate.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Those detox centers that offer medication-assisted treatment and therapies, along with a strong foundation in faith, and a solid peer support group, have far better results than most. In these centers, success reaches a number that is far closer to the completion rate, with near-zero relapses.

Cost of alcohol and drug detox in Minnesota

The cost of a detox program in Minnesota, at least in some cases, can actually be free for those without the financial means to cover the costs. For most though, the cost of detox is the cost of the medications and that will run from a low of about $21 per month, to somewhere north of $600 per month. Again, this is just the cost of the medications.

The next portion of the cost will relate to the treatment setting and whether partial hospitalization is required. For outpatient care, there are few, if any, additional costs beyond that of the medications. For an inpatient program prices range from $1,450 per month to as much as $6,700 per month. This is almost exclusively based on the quality of the setting, but in some instance, the premium prices will be impacted by higher than average success rates.

Programs that are accredited by the state of Minnesota and organizations like CARF are commonly eligible under many health insurances plans. When they are covered, insurance will commonly foot 80% to 90% of the bill but there are normally initial co-payments that will have to be covered, and a lifetime limit on the amount they will pay out. Look at these carefully before deciding on any particular program.

Inpatient vs outpatient drug and alcohol detox in Minnesota

Outpatient detox is best suited to those patients that are not heavily addicted or those that are going through detox for the first time. It will also be important for the patient to have entered the program because they accept that they need help. Additionally, outpatient care is best suited to those that have a strong network of family and friends that are prepared to help keep them focused on their recovery.

Inpatient care is advised for those that are heavily addicted, especially to things like stimulants. It is also advised for those that have either failed to compete an earlier detox attempt or have relapsed into addiction. This is also best for those that need the privacy an inpatient setting offers. It is still very helpful for the patient to have a strong network of family and friends to help them along the way, but it is less critical in an inpatient environment where everything is constantly monitored.
