It does not matter whether this is for drug detox or alcohol detox. The treatment must start with a careful medical assessment that looks at both the physical addiction and any co-occurring illness that may have led to the addiction. The clinical treatment team will need to know what the patient is addicted to, for long they have been addicted, and how much they are using. They will also need to know if the patient has been treated unsuccessfully in the past.
Most drug rehab and alcohol rehab programs in Montana are based on a medication-assisted treatment approach, using Methadone, Suboxone, Subutex or Vivitrol. The treatment team will need to determine what the right dosing level should be at the outset and then work to adjust that doing level as the patient works their way through the detox program.
Detox, whether of drugs or alcohol, should always include some form of counseling that helps the patient understand the true nature of their addiction. This counselling can then help them make behavioral changes and teach coping strategies that will create a treatment outcome that goes well beyond detox and well into a lifelong cure.
This prescription medication is a well know part of the drug detox treatment programs many clinics offer. Suboxone’s relatively mild effects of euphoria help ease addicts out of addiction with more potent Opioids and heroin.
Essentially, it eases patients into a pattern of decreasing highs, while avoiding the crashing difficult withdrawal symptom that would result in a total withdrawal without medication support. So, an initial dosage is set and then, as the patient works through the detox/rehab process, that dosage is reduced and eventually eliminated.
However, there is a risk if this treatment program isn’t carefully controlled. Suboxone, when misused, is as addictive as any other opioid, and while withdrawal is not quite as intense, it is all the same, a difficult thing to recover from. If this treatment is recommended, be sure the center offering this approach has a very strong track record of drug detox successes.
Montana is a bit less expensive, compared to most other states, for both alcohol and drug detox, but just slightly so.
The first component of this cost is for the prescription medications that will assist in the medical detox program. Depending on what is prescribed, patient should expect to pay between $35 and $565 per month. This treatment should last for at least 3 months and could run for as long as 12 months and this will include some amount of counseling, normally in a group setting.
The next cost component comes into play when the drug or alcohol detox treatment will be as an inpatient. This is the cost to cover the room, meals, and various other amenities and is charged on a monthly basis. Prices generally range from about $129 to as much as $1,450 per day. At the higher end of this range are private clinics that are set in resort-style properties.
Treatment delivered by accredited clinics will often be covered by health insurance policies. In most cases, that coverage will meet as much as 90% of the cost, and this is regardless of whether this is an inpatient or outpatient drug or alcohol detox program. Just be aware that there are typically limits on the total amount the insurance policy will pay out and after that, the costs will be fully borne by the patient.
The initial assessment will make a recommendation about whether the drug or alcohol detox treatments should be done in an inpatient or outpatient setting and that determination will be based on a number of factors.
If the patient is heavily addicted over an extended period of time, or has tried and failed to get and stay clean, the recommendation will most likely involve admission as an inpatient. Otherwise, patients can well in an outpatient setting that is far less restrictive.
