For those that can’t do inpatient options, detox for both drug and alcohol can still be successful in an outpatient setting that also runs for at least 90 days. It will just require a greater personal commitment on the patient’s part, and requires a stronger support network of family and friends that can help them stay focused on their recovery.

Finally, choose a program that takes a holistic approach to drug and alcohol detox, with rehab therapies that consider dual diagnosis and co-occurring illnesses in the treatment process. This allows both the underlying causes of the addiction and the addiction itself to be treated as one and addressed simultaneously.
