A drug detox or alcohol detox program in Washington will have many similarities, and most detox/rehab centers offer treatments for both since they use many of the same treatment tactics to bring patients out of addiction and back to a life that is clean and sober.
They always start with a detailed examination that looks for both physical and mental issues that may have led to the addiction or that have been created by the addiction. These factors allow the medical team to fashion a detox/rehab program that addresses the needs of each patient, rather than trying some cookie-cutter approach.
That program will start with medically assisted detox that starts the drug or alcohol detox process and while this is most commonly done in non-hospital settings, there are cases where a partial hospitalization will be required to deal with the riskiest initial stages of withdrawal. In either case, this marks the start of the detox/rehab journey.
Once launched, the next phase uses medication-assisted treatment to continue easing the patient through the detox process so they can get really focused on rehab and recovery. Medications can include Methadone, Suboxone, Subutex and Vivitrol but there are some programs that prefer a fully drug-free or holistic approach to both detox and rehab. It is a tougher course but those that follow this path are said to come out stronger in the end.
No matter the approach, alcohol and drug detox/rehab programs in Washington should last at least 90 day. Programs that run for just 30 days have been proven less effective at preventing a relapse into addiction.
First, addiction to painkillers is essentially the same as an opioid addiction since pain killers are the most commonly used drugs for pain management. So, painkiller detox is most likely opioid detox and that is commonly accomplished with a combination of medication-assisted and medically managed detox and rehab.
Common medication used in this process in Washington include Methadone, Suboxone, Subutex and Vivitrol. These vary in some important ways that patients will need to understand. Methadone must be prescribed and professionally administered. You can’t just go to any pharmacy and get a prescription you will take at home. Suboxone and Subutex must also prescribed but they are commonly filled by any pharmacy that is licensed to fill Call II prescriptions and then can be taken at home. Vivitrol is a medication implant that delivers the medication automatically over time so there is no chance that it will be forgotten or misused.
No matter which approach is taken, these will not address the underlying pain issues that led to the addiction. For that, patient will need to simultaneously find alternative pain management approaches that will keep them off the drug that got them in the predicament to start with.
Washington does have numerous drug detox treatment programs that are qualified to deliver painkiller rehab. Not all though will have the pain management skills. So, be sure to consult with them at the start to determine how both issues will be addressed.
The cost for detox programs in Washington is unsurprising, and this is true for both inpatient and outpatient detox programs. In an outpatient setting, the only real cost patients have to deal with is the price of the prescribed medications. These will average $35 per month and this normally includes counseling in a group setting and peer or buddy support. This applies to generic brands and average dosages. For name brand and higher dosages, the monthly cost could rise to as much as $100 per month.
Inpatient costs average $4,450 per month. This also includes the medications, medical care, Behavioral therapies like CBT and EMDR, room and board, 3 daily meals and other amenities. There are some non-profit programs that offer free treatments for the homeless, for abused women and for veterans.
Most private health insurance will provide coverage, up to certain lifetime limits, for drug and alcohol detox and rehab programs. Typically, this can cover as much as 90% of the total cost. For others, Medicare/Medicaid also provides coverage for these treatments.
A drug detox or alcohol detox program’s success is based on a few things, starting with the commitment each patient makes to getting clean and staying that way. Then the question is whether a patient will do better in an inpatient or outpatient setting. Statistics prove inpatient programs are measurably more effective in getting patients through the entire drug or alcohol detox and rehab programs and that these patients are more likely to remain clean and sober long after they return to a normal life.
